Conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar offers to invest in Karan Johar-led Dharma Productions; mentions ‘love of his life’ Jacqueline Fernandez in letter of intent

Sukesh Chandrashekhar recently made a surprising proposition to filmmaker Karan Johar. The conman is currently in Tihar jail facing charges of extortion. In an unusual move, he expressed interest in acquiring a 50-70 per cent stake in Johar’s production company, Dharma Productions. This proposal, referred to as a ‘Letter of Intent,’ was sent from Tihar jail, via the legal firm Anantam Legal.

In the letter, Sukesh Chandrashekhar conveyed his desire to secure a stake in Dharma Productions managed by Karan Johar. He asserted that the offer was ‘non-negotiable’ and could be finalized within 48 hours if accepted. “This letter of intent pertains to acquiring a major stake in your esteemed company, Dharma Productions,” noted the document disseminated by Sukesh’s PR team. He further explained that he had been informed by his financial advisor that Dharma Productions was seeking investment and that his company, LS Holdings, aimed to support the expansion of Johar’s venture.

Recognizing the potential scepticism surrounding his proposal due to his background, Sukesh acknowledged that the offer might appear ‘unusual’ but reiterated that his intentions were sincere. “To me, cinema is not merely a business; it’s a passion and deep emotional investment, as I am a devoted film enthusiast. I understand this offer may seem odd coming from the confines of Asia’s largest prison, but Karan, remarkable opportunities often arise from extraordinary circumstances,” he stated in the letter.

Sukesh Chandrashekhar also expressed admiration for Karan Johar. “My family and I are big fans of Dharma Productions, and the ‘wonderful human’ Karan Johar, especially my love Jacqueline, holds you in high regard, as you surely know. Thus, it would be a privilege and honour to invest in your company and become part of your family,” he conveyed.

Dharma Productions’ update

Adar Poonawalla, CEO of the Serum Institute of India has acquired a 50% stake in Dharma Productions for ₹1000 crore. Poonawalla’s investment was made in a personal capacity through Serene Productions. It will leave Dharma Productions with a residual stake, while Karan Johar will retain his role as Executive Chairman.
